Biographies of Board Members

Thank you to these dedicated board members for countless hours of inspired leadership and who have provided 100% participation as donors to Love Living At Home. We are also grateful for the hard work of the volunteer committee members who have worked with the board to build LLH.

Board Officers

  • Kathleen M. Garner, Co­-Founder & Co-Chair: Retired from a career in Human Services and as an ordained Presbyterian minister; former Director Jansen Memorial Hospice and Executive Director Suicide Prevention and Crisis Services; Founder Bereavement Center of Westchester; Co-­chaired the Tompkins County United Way Campaign in 2013­-14.

  • Jim Johnston, Co-Chair: Multiple nonprofit board positions, locally and nationally; former President/CEO of Family & Children's Service of Ithaca for 40 years.

  • Robin Dubovi, Co-­Vice Chair: Licensed clinical social worker; has worked at The Racker Centers, Catholic Charities and Ithaca College; served on the boards of the Center for Transformative Action and The Vitamin L Project.

  • David Sprague, Treasurer: Senior partner and co­-owner of Sprague & Janowsky accounting firm; Treasurer of Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, past President, serving on board for 23 years; past VP Hospicare of Tompkins County; past Treasurer of Hospicare Foundation.

  • Leslie Quest, Co-­Founder & Co-Vice Chair/Secretary: Owner of freelance bookkeeping services; currently board member of Tompkins Community Action; former board member Beechtree Care Center.

Board Members   

  • Bob Case: Wealth Advisor at Tompkins Financial Advisors; former member of the Tompkins County Public Library Foundation Board and Union Springs Education Foundation; Current board member United Way of Tompkins County and Leadership Tompkins Advisory Board.
  • Ann M. Colt: Retired as Chief Development Officer for United Way of Tompkins County; was both board member and chapter president of the Finger Lakes Chapter of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals; formerly served as a board member for the Human Services Coalition; New York State public school teacher.
  • Jim Darnieder:  served for 15 years in sales and sales management with IBM; including District Sales Manager in the Syracuse office. Before his recent retirement, Jim was the owner and operator of JD’s Fish n’ Grill Restaurant in Syracuse for 23 years. 
  • Robert Hillman: Edwing H. Woodruff Professor of Law, Cornell Law School; former associate dean for academic affairs at the law school; former mentor in Ithaca Youth Bureau's Big Brother program; board member Eastlake Homeowner's Association.
  • Marcia Kepecs: a new resident of Ithaca; nearing retirement, after 11 years as CEO of an agency that provides special education services to preschoolers in New York City; former Director of a nonprofit for 25 years; consultant to nonprofits and public agencies for 10 years; educator. 
  • Tammarion Lam: VP for operations management, Warren Real Estate with lead responsibilities for operations management, client services. Current member of Ithaca Board of Realtors, Executive Committee for Friends of Ithaca College and past board member of SHRMTC. Previously worked for The Center for Foreign Affairs and Languages Training and American Pacific University in Vietnam.
  • Ann Lemley: Professor Emerita, Cornell University; Past President Cornell Association of Professors Emeriti; former Department Chair, College of Human Ecology, Cornell; former Division Chair, American Chemical Society; former NY State Water Quality Professor, Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • J. Tyson Merrill, Psy.D: Recently retired from a nearly 40-year career as a Clinical Psychologist; employed in several university counseling centers including Cornell University, organization serving those diagnosed with severe mental illnesses and private practice; served on boards of Compos Mentis, Temple Beth-El Sisterhood and Shaker Heights Symphony.
  • Jim Quest, Co-­Founder: Entrepreneur; past board member Children of Alcoholics Foundation; former board member Cayuga Chamber Orchestra; former Cornell teacher for six years; 50+ year career in marketing.
  • Carol Scheele: Former lecturer at Cornell University and Ithaca College; admissions and advising staff in the Cornell College of Engineering; editing and development responsibilities in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell; former volunteer, auxiliary president, board member, teen volunteer program director and fund raiser at Cayuga Medical Center.
  • Gene Yarussi: Former CEO/President Emerson Power Transmission; has served on many nonprofit boards; and is currently on boards of The Racker Center, the TC­3 Foundation and Tompkins County Area Development.

Staff

  • Elena Flash, Executive Director: Elena brings to LLH 30 years of experience as an attorney for nonprofit, health care and long-term care organizations. In her words: "The Village Movement is sweeping across the country. This elegantly simple model empowers seniors to stay active and engaged in the homes and neighborhoods they love. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help create a Village for Tompkins County and look forward to serving our Love Living at Home members."
