Imagine that we are once again able to get together with friends for tea, coffee or whatever. You’ve recently read, seen or heard about something in the news, and you want to mention it and get their reactions. Perhaps they will be aware of it as well, or perhaps this will be completely new information. It may have been an important event, or it might seem somewhat silly; in any case, you’d like to know what your friends think of it. Perhaps they’ll agree with your perspective or perhaps they won’t. But you know that as your friends they’ll respond with mutual respect and civil discourse. Our hope is that we’ll all learn something from the dialogue that occurs.
That’s our goal for the new Love Living at Home “CURRENT EVENTS CHAT,” a weekly virtual program on Wednesday afternoons at 4:30 p.m., covering matters controversial and non-controversial, political and cultural, worldwide and local. If you have a question, it just maybe that someone in the CHAT will have an answer.
Moderated each week by LLH member Hank Dullea, he’ll try to get the ball rolling by sending out a few possible subjects in advance, but the real agenda will be set by all of you each day when you mention a subject that you’d like to discuss. Our goal is to have as much participation as possible, recognizing of course that our present Zoom world leaves much to be desired when it comes to interactions. Filibusters may have a role in the United States Senate, but not in our weekly gathering.
If you’d like to receive the initial list of possible subjects for each week’s CHAT, please let Cheryl know so that we can add your name to the email list. As usual, the Zoom link for each scheduled CHAT will be sent out to the membership that morning. Additional ideas for the format of these discussions will be welcomed by Hank, and you can reach him at email@example.com.
Here's hoping that we'll see you at our initial session on Wednesday, January 20 at 4:30 p.m
